Are pins and needles getting on your nerves…?

Dear LPG,
I often think that it must be ever worse for the night owls, but even though I count myself as one of nature’s early birds, that actual ‘wake up moment’ has always been a bit of a challenge.
We all dream, and if you are among those who remember what was going on in your head on waking, there will be times when the familiar surroundings at the end of a nightmare will be a relief, and others that will leave you wondering why you were cruelly interrupted during the best part of a really inspirational journey through your thoughts.
We retired folk often don’t have the pressure of having to get up and ready for the day as early as our younger counterparts although we don’t always have it our own way. As the need to get up, get children ready for school or worry about that problem we left at work yesterday becomes one we no longer have to deal with, the occasional medical appointment, the need to visit the smallest room in the house and other aches and pains often serve as a replacement.
While it can happen at the oddest times of the day or night, another reason for such interruptions can often be an attack of pins and needles in your hands of feet and while most of us have experienced the feeling at times during our lives, they are serving as my morning wakeup call quite often just recently.
It is not always the reason for my waking but adding the sensation of finding yourself with a hand or foot that feels as useful as it would be if it were made of cotton wool and totally ineffective, can be worrying. And while the clock shows them to only last a few minutes, for some reason those waking ‘back to reality’ moments can last for a lot longer in my mind.
Pins and Needles, especially when you wake up with them, are usually an annoyance which goes away, but recently it has been happening to my right hand quite regularly. That was provocation enough for me to take a look on the internet, where I found a few interesting facts.
I learned that it happens when your nerves get pinched and is not often serious, but I also learned that if it starts to happen regularly, it might be worth checking what is happening with your doctor. I also found a few videos which might help when it comes to getting the proper sensation back in the hand or foot that is affected and decided that all that information might be worth sharing just in case you are a fellow sufferer who might benefit.
