Inspired by an old LPG post, on the question of losing altitude?

6 Jan 2026

Dear LPG,

Isn’t it funny that most human beings in the western world don’t mind losing weight but get a bit upset when it comes to losing height?

Having recently found your website I have started to look below the day’s post to some of the older ones.  I have found some really interesting messages which I feel could do with a second airing and I have undertaken to help when it comes to highlighting this issue again.

It is one of those things we hear and do our best to ignore most of the time but reading the post brought what the doctor said right back to the front of my thoughts.

I know that we in the UK went metric years ago, but it was not until my most recent health check, which included a height measurement, that it showed me to be a whole 2 centimetres shorter than I remember. Perhaps it was the fact that the record shows that I have lost roughly 2 centimetres in height (as opposed to less than one inch) that seemed to make the loss feel twice as serious.

The internet tells that we humans start losing height as soon as we get to age 40 which might which was another detail that started to play on my mind and I thought that perhaps another look at the subject may be worth a read.
