Taking some of the guesswork out of parking…

09 Mar 2018

Dear LPG,

I am a pensioner who is also a driver, and the one thing that I always found frustrating is the whole question of parking in our Borough.

Shopping is the thing that I am so lucky to still be able to do for myself and I think myself doubly lucky because, although walking is becoming a bit of a problem as I get older, and even though I do not qualify for a Blue Badge, I can still get to the shopping shelves and make my own food choices.  The only problem is the ever present question of where to park.

Have you ever been in that situation where there is a spot just the size of your car but it is part of a controlled parking zone and you can’t be sure of when the restriction is in force?    Some of the signs do have times posted but many of them don’t, which is really annoying because if you are like me, in spite of your desire to find a close place to park in, struggling to walk past a progression of vacant ‘Permit only’ parking spots because you are not sure and can’t afford a parking ticket, is pretty frustrating.  Have you ever tried to get to Aldi in Catford on a Sunday morning?

I have found a bit of help that some readers may benefit from knowing about.  Every CPZ parking sign that has no actual times posted on it has a letter printed on it and those letters are quite significant.  Those letters represent the area of the zone and there is a corresponding list of exactly when you can park in each particular area.

It is interesting to note that there is a zone in Lee that is only restricted for two hours a day.

It is all posted on Lewisham council’s web site and well worth taking a look at.

CE, Ladywell.
