Remembering the STOP button

08 Nov 2017

Dear LPG.

I found this bit of information on Facebook and I think it applies to old and young people alike, so I hope you will post it on your site.

Remember the stop button

On the way home from work tonight I was near the bottom of an escalator at a busy tube station and saw that someone had fallen over at the bottom.  People were trying to help the person up, causing more of a blockage for the people on the escalator who were getting stuck as more and more people behind were getting pushed into them.  Things were getting out of control very quickly as more and more people were falling over the trapped person...

No one thought to press the ‘stop’ button.

By the time I had got close enough to one, the fallen person was just about freed, but it was awful to watch and not be able to help.

If you ever see this happen please remember this message and, when you get close enough, PRESS THE STOP BUTTON FIRST to stop the escalator as that was the underlying problem after the initial fall.
