An obscure little publication

25 Jul 2018

Dear LPG,

When I think of Parkinson’s I usually think of the horribly debilitating  illness,  but  I was having a look around the back of one of my closets the other day when I discovered what I think could be the forerunner of the magazine as we now know it.

The booklet belong to my mother I think.  The publication informs that it was established in 1848 and called ‘Recipes and Home Hints’.  It was published by Parkinson’s the Pill People, according to its cover, and it is filled with exactly what the title implies.

The book is one of a series and, in it,   have found 19th century answers for problems such as opening tight-fitting stoppers and tins, how to remove blood stains, how to keep the bath spotless and  even informs of an easy way to replace the knob if it comes off your kettle.

There is one thing that bothers me though and that is that I can’t find any information on the internet about it because every search that I try results in information on the disease.

I have asked LPG if they would be good enough to publish a picture of it and ask if anyone else knows any more about it.

WJ, Downham

LPG did do a brief investigation of our own and found the following information.
