Calling all ladies over 70.

01 Feb 2019

Dear LPG,

I am now 68 years old and recently went for a mammogram.  There is nothing unusual about that really.  As usual, I received the reminder letter and turned up for the scan.

It was at the end of the visit that I realised that I would never get another letter reminding me that I should attend another three year check.  Once we reach the age of seventy the reminders stop coming but in spite of that fact, we ladies are no less susceptible to the risks that a mammogram can detect and protect us from.

So can I remind all the ladies of a certain age, and all the gentlemen who are aware of any lady who is approaching her 70th birthday, to check when they last had a mammogram and remember that even though you don’t receive a letter after this milestone birthday, you really need to keep a note of your last check and remember to book your next three years later.

If you are not sure a telephone call to 020 3299 1964, will allow the breast screening team to remind you when you need to be seen again, and that is also the number you will need to call in order to make a booking when the time comes.
