Dear LPG,

We all have those days when you make detailed plans and the first thing that you do goes wrong. 

The other day it was my turn for this to happen, and the problem was my plan to put some washing on.  It was one of those days that promised to produce perfect drying weather and my plan was to make good use of the day by making my washing machine earn its keep. 

I did breakfast first and realised that the water was cold when I washed up.  I know how much more it costs to get the washing machine to heat cold water rather than having hot water piped in from the hot water tap and decided to find out if I could pop them into my friend’s washing machine instead.

Her reaction to my question was a little surprising though.  She suggested that washing most of your clothes with cold water achieves the same results as using hot and can have some added advantages.  So I set my washing machine to cold and gave it a go.  There results were surprising although only for some fabrics. 

I know that everyone now uses the internet to do their personal research and I am no exception.  I found some really interesting information including how much the odd cold wash is calculated to save on the annual fuel bill.  Most of the articles I read informed that washing certain stains in hot water can make them stick to clothes more than cold water will. 

I found all this out when my boiler went wrong and I have to say it works so I hope that LPG will be able to add the information at the bottom of this post.
