Happy Grandparent’s day…

06 Oct 2019

Dear LPG,

I am not sure if our readers know that today is National Grandparents day and I would like to bring that fact to the fore for those who do not.

I would like to leave readers with a few thoughts on the subject of grandparents…

The definition of Grandparents by an 8-year-old I know…

Granddad is a man and Grandma is a lady.

A lady and a man who have no children of their own like other people’s.

Grandparents don’t have to do anything except be there for when we come to visit.

It is good when they drive us to the shops and give us money

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the colours of the flowers and also tell us why we should not step on cracks.

They can take their teeth and gums out!

They don’t have to be too smart.

They don’t fuss if you ask them to read the same story to us over and over again.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They have time to answer questions like, ‘Why is God not married?’ and, ‘Why do some dogs chase cats?’

They are the only grown-ups who spend time with us.

On such a celebratory day do you identify with this child’s definition of what a Grandparent should be?
