...the voice of pensioners

We need to use our right to choose.

05 Apr 2019

Dear LPG,

I just want to remind readers that if they live in the Lewisham borough wards of Evelyn and Whitefoot they will be called upon to vote on May 2nd this year and, in order to exercise that right, need to be registered by April 12th?

Now that we have the right to vote I believe that it is really important that we do, and for all the reminders so many forget to register.  In addition to the local elections, and in the light of what is happening with our national government, we also need to be ready for any other election that might be called.

So, in spite of the fact that I am not the most politically motivated member of the Lewisham public, I would like to ask LPG to take the time to put my message on their pages so that I can add my reminder to all the others because, in my opinion, every vote makes a difference to the result and the older voters have the power to affect our section of the community more than we think.

There is one other thing to remember though, and that is that there are two versions of the electoral register and, if you don’t want your voting registration details to be available for companies  who acquire such lists for advertising purposes you need to opt out of being added to the electoral ‘open register’.  Having read some of the details online I feel it important that we pensioners minimise every opportunity companies and organisations may have to bother us with those letters and telephone calls that often interrupt our days and leave us more open to, or wondering about being possible victims of scamming.

LPG did a little research and found out that one can register in the borough of Lewisham by telephone (020 8314 6086) or on line, and if you have sufficient reason, there is also a way of registering anonymously.
