Getting closer to the daily 5…

19 Apr 2019

Dear LPG,

I have been at it again… googling I mean, and I thought that some LPG readers would perhaps benefit from this bit of information.  When I was a child, like most children of my age, I had no choice in the matter. Greens and what fruit there was around were obligatory if you did not want to experience the result of your fathers wrath when your mum said that you had refused to eat something that you were given,  and when I was bringing up my own children, the green aspect of  school dinners were as compulsory as they were during my childhood.

But then I got older and lived alone for a bit, while I worked so much of the time that it was more convenient to eat out or bring dinner home with me than it was to actually prepare real food (and when I say real food I am discounting the frozen and pre-prepared microwave dinners that so many of us eat).

I have to hold my hands up and say that I really don’t like fruit or vegetables that much.  I read a study that concluded that a significant percentage of men shun them and, yes, I am old, but I am an old man.

Since then we have been told that eating our 5 a day will make all the difference to us health-wise and it is not that I don’t believe it, it is just that I have always been hopeless in the kitchen and now that I am older and live alone I avoid that part of my home like the plague.

I read an online article recently which may encourage those who have turned into unhealthy eaters to get a little closer to being healthier without too much effort and thought I should pass it on in a bit to do my part for the LPG and my fellow pensioners.

Enjoy…
