Making sure everybody knows…

07 May 2019

Dear LPG,

I read one of your articles recently and wanted to add something.  The post I am referring to was entitled ‘The Power of our younger pensioners ‘and it was posted on 8th April 2019, (►►►)

I think that there is one thing to be added when we talk about power and that is the power of the media.  CP advises that when we stumble upon such a situation, we need to do our research and then complain to the people who can make a difference, but we also need to remember that the internet and newspapers are a really important way of getting the message through.

There are many times when I remember reading or watching a news article and sympathising with the situation that has caused one person or a small group or community to speak out against predicaments that they find themselves in.  In general we are a nation that are more willing to read and talk about these things rather than write and contribute by letting others know of injustices that are happening to us.

There will always be someone out there who disagrees with your point of view (and when you are doing the reading of such information, there have to be times when you disagree with what is written), but contacting the media in some way, no matter how small, has to be one method  to get the debate started.  Even if you don’t feel equipped to start a challenge yourself you might inspire someone else to take up your cause.

So my appeal to my fellow readers is, when you are affected by something that happens around you or to you,  it is really important to phone the papers, email the media and make sure that your thoughts reach more people than the few friends that you usually talk to about it.

Sometimes it is possible to persuade companies and government departments to change their policies and laws and the internet can be a really good way of finding out if there are others with likeminded views.  It is never going to happen overnight but each bit of information stored, each individual thought registered, will eventually contribute to change.  Even yours…

LPG has to start by saying that this is the whole reason that we exist.  Our aim is to be a way for the person who has found a life-loophole to share it with others and we relish such contact. There are lots of websites showing some really complex and involved methods about the best way to do this.  But it really does not have to be this complicated.  We have found one of the simpler sites.
