Every picture tells a story (chapter 5)

05 Jul 2019

Dear LPG,

I have noticed your request for pictures that tell a story and I would like to tell readers about this one.

I am now coming up to seventy and, even though there is nothing wrong with my legs,  I have to admit that retirement has made me a little lazy over the years,  I can, and I have to say, that I do far too much driving everywhere.  As I have become older, I have become one of those that doesn’t travel too far at all and I have to admit to having one of my grandchildren or children take me anywhere out of my very limited comfort zone most of the time.

The other day I needed to take my car to the garage.  It needed to be there at nine o’clock in the morning and, in my old age, I have developed a real dislike of finding myself in a car stuck in a traffic jam.   It was a weekday and I could not find a family member to take it for me so I came up with a plan.  I was going to start driving at five in the morning, leave the car, post the key through the garage door and get a cab home but the day before, when I saw that the weather was going to be fine and I remembered my freedom pass, I decided not to pay out that much.

With a  plan in place, I did not over-sleep and I got my car to the garage on time.  It is just a short walk from there to Stanstead Road and the bus stop, but as I got to that junction the sun was rising and I noticed something that I have not seen since the days when I used to get up and leave early for work, and that is just how beautiful the streets of Lewisham are before all the hustle and bustle of the day begins.

It felt like a good day to walk for a few stops, and when I put my hand in my pocket to check that I had my bus pass, I could feel my mobile phone and found myself walking and taking pictures all the way home.  As I walked past Aldi in Rushey Green, I looked over the road, saw and caught this picture of Rosenthal Road and its sunrise.

I have come to the conclusion that we miss quite a lot by not getting up early.
