The cost of a call from my home phone…

23 Jul 2019

Dear LPG,

I know that you have tackled this question before your publication ever became electronic, but time moves on and the rules keep changing so I am wondering if you can bring readers up to date on the cost involved in using your home phone to make a UK telephone call these days.

I understand that numbers that begin with 01 02 or 03 all cost the same and I have learned that if you use your phone enough it is worth paying an extra charge which will cover the cost of all your calls regardless of what time of the day and week you make them but, I think that I am part of a shrinking breed of person because, although I do have a mobile, I really cannot remember the last time I actually made a call with it.

You might say that I am much more at home with my home phone…

The rules change daily but the internet is more equipped to keep up to date than we at LPG are.   We have found two lists which are provided by impartial agencies and give the basics.

We would like to remind you of an article we posted about numbers that begin with 07 and which are not always quite as they seem…

We also found some information about numbers that begin with 08 that may be of interest…

It is always worth remembering that nearly every telephone company has a slightly different set of charges when it comes to connection and call fees.  So, although it is a bit of an inconvenience, it is always a good idea to phone your landline telephone service provider, (for many companies it is still a case of dialling 150 for the operator) who should be able to tell you exactly how much it will cost you to make a call once you tell them the number you want to make contact with. It may be a good idea to have your password ready before you call.

We hope this helps
