One way to eliminate the rug to carpet falling hazard…

28 Dec 2019

Dear LPG,

I always remember reading that anything you learn could be a valuable lesson for someone else and LPG aims to get all valuable messages across.  For this reason I just want to say a quick word about something that often can be a tripping hazard in the house and which can so easily be sorted.

I am one of those old people that are also quite old fashioned because I never took to the fashion of getting rid of your carpets and having wooden flooring all over my house.  There is something soft and comforting about the feel of the pile beneath your shoes and the echo of a house with wooden floors makes it sound unhomely to me.  I think there is something special about having carpets in the winter too, in spite of the milder weather these last few years, when first thing on a cold morning your toes leave the bed and sink into a soft shag pile.

With that in mind I have a rug beside my bed which is on top of the carpet but for some reason the edge keeps lifting and, while I don’t want to lose, it I have tripped over it a couple of times now.

I have seen those corners that are being advertised lately and stick the edge of the carpet to the floor but they only really work if the rug is not on another carpet.

Not wanting to get rid of my carpet, and in desperation, I turned to the internet which has an answer for everything and it suggested another use for your steam iron, or better still your steam cleaner if you have one.  I do have a steam cleaner and, with just 10 minutes steaming and  an overnight weighting down with an upside-down coffee table, the problem has disappeared- for now anyway (and I know just what to do if it happens again).

If you have a problem carpet that needs sorting, I suggest that you have a go with the steam iron or cleaner and some overnight weight; it works a treat.

LY offers some information on getting rid of those curled edges on rugs and an example of the carpet corners that are referred to in today’s message.  The reviews are again American.
