Keeping your hands clean in these uncertain times…

19 Mar 2020

Dear LPG,

It seems that every now and then we have a real health scare that becomes headline news and really worries us all.   Time was when they affected other parts of the world and we used to hear about them on the news and though, there have been a few during our lifetimes, they seem to be getting bigger and more widespread.   Any pensioner will remember Aids which first came to the fore in the 1980s and which was at its height in 2005.  Then there was the Ebola scare which was discovered in the late 1970s and became a world worry in 2014.  But now we have the Coronavirus which is particularly worrying because whatever else you hear on the news, the one fact that stands out is that older people are particularly susceptible.

I think that it is particularly frightening because it has spread all over the world really quickly and the result has been the empty shop shelves, especially when it comes to the items which can best protect us from becoming infected.  In general, and now that we know what the term means, there is a shortage of all the store cupboard items which will be required if we need to ‘Self Isolate’.

Hand sanitizer is perhaps the one item which you cannot find in any shop these days.  I was sent a recipe from a relative in America which is very simple to make and then I looked online and there are quite a few to choose from.  They are all easy to make although I suspect that the ingredients will be the next genre of items that the shops will run out of.

I would like to share what I have found….
