Eating; getting started again…

22 Apr 2020

Dear LPG,

I have been reading the many virus-related writings that have been featured on your pages lately and found that I had to smile at GW’s comments about losing weight as a result of a week or two of feeling under the weather  (►►►) and being unable to eat properly.  But when I had finished smiling there was one aspect of that experience that I was left questioning.

I live with my aunt who has been ill although I don’t believe she had a full flung attack of the virus.  She showed symptoms very similar to those of a frighteningly serious bout of ‘flu, but whatever it was, she really did not want to eat for some 4 days.  I spent that time worrying because she is an older lady, and knowing how important it was to make sure she was getting some food into her system, I was really concerned as I tried to make sure that I was doing the best I could.  When she began to recover my problem was what should I try to encourage her to eat first.

I found myself with a similar illness for a few days before, and made the mistake of trying a soft boiled egg as my first meal, and I had the taste of that egg in my mouth for days after, no matter what else I tried to eat.

So I took a look on line to see if there was a better way to get back into the eating habit and found some answers which I think may have made my aunt’s experience a little better than mine and I hope that the suggestions might help other readers who may find themselves with a similar problem.

FI left LPG with a few possible answers that she found online…
