Weight, water and exercise….

04 Jul 2020

Dear LPG,

Here is something interesting for all of those who are trying to lose a little weight.

I suppose that I am a bit of an exercise freak, that does not mean that I do a fully flung aerobics workout every morning or spend a proportion of every day at the gym, but I do admit to having a fitness watch, checking my blood pressure and checking how many steps I take each day in spite of being nearer to 80 years old than to 70.  I don’t use the step counter to frighten my conscience into exercise that I am far too old to manage, but I do like to check that my weight has not fluctuated too far upwards.

I am also lucky enough to be able to actually get into a bath of soothing hot water in the knowledge that I can get out again, and now that I am not hurrying everywhere all the time, I indulge in that activity quite a bit.

The other day I decided on an evening bubble-soak and before getting in I stepped onto the scales which I found a little disappointing, even though I had enjoyed a couple of doughnuts with a friend and a cup of tea earlier, and after my long, soothing, satisfying soak I found myself on the platform again but there was a significant drop in the weight that the scales were showing me the second time.  I thought I had made a mistake, so I got off and then got on again, but the scales gave the same more encouraging information and left me with yet another reason to smile.

I have always known that we are lighter when we get up in the mornings but having looked on the internet I found some interesting facts about why a good soak can make you feel good about yourself in more ways than one and, by the way showers have a similar effect although I think that they cheat you of the relaxing benefits of the all-out soak.

So I have learned of another serious ‘exercise’ which may increase your water bill a little, but is very likely to encourage your scales to tell you that you are a little lighter.
