Sharing the love in more ways than one….

29 Sep 2020

Dear LPG,

I recently took a look around the internet and as most readers who have read my writings before will know by now, one of my favourite things to do is take a look at all the really unique national and international days that we, as a world, have accumulated in recent years and I have found one that I feel we should all observe today.

I have just learned that today has been dubbed the International Day of the Heart and, while that sounds like a day to show everyone just how much you love them, the focus is to make us aware of what an important muscle it is.

My internet surfing journey today taught me a few facts about our “tickers” that perhaps I am learning for the first time, or that have been hidden at the back of my mind for a while. With that in mind I have chosen a few web pages that might just remind my fellow readers of those things that we sometimes forget are worth making a habit of.  So here is my reminder of ways that we can minimise any risk of our succumbing to; at best - that slippery slope of forgetting just how much our hearts depend on us to do the right thing and, at worst; becoming one of next year’s heart attack victims.

I have been reminded of the importance of being aware of one’s cholesterol levels and the effect that what we eat has on that, making sure that our blood pressure is within the accepted parameters and also reminding those that don’t, just how important a little regular exercise can be no matter how old you get.

So while I feel that it is very important to share the love at all times, during this day of the heart, we should transmit a little love in its direction.
