The ultimate ambition…

10 Sep 2020

Dear LPG,

It is interesting that in spite of all the modifications our world has gone through over the centuries, the basics never really change.   There is an old proverb that has been used in many variations down the ages, and there are differing versions of it depending on which part of the world you hear it, although the principle meaning is the same.  Even the bible makes mention of it in Romans chapter 5; Verse 4.

I think that the trials and tribulations of life do help to build character and, once the need to work towards achieving our ambitions becomes important in our lives, the trials and hurdles that we have to overcome to reach and realise them inevitably bring their own challenges.    It always has been and will always be that way although for some there will be goals which will be generally thought of as negative.

It is accepted that success can only be attained through hard work and for that a positive mind-set is an essential component.

It is also fact that hard work comes in many forms. I think that many older people might argue that many of the ‘successful’ youngsters of today don’t really know what hard work is as they spend their working days aspiring to jobs such as being an IT programmer, while fewer young people start their lives aiming to be farmers and carpenters where the physical side of the work is more demanding.   It all depends on what one is good at really and we have to appreciate that they all work equally as hard to get to the top of their respective professions.  It is all a case of working out what you are good at and the options that are open to you which can often depend on the way you are brought up.

That small minority of people, who choose to follow paths that are thought to be negative by the rest of society, may well laugh at the ones who work hard for their wages because it can be argued that they have learned how much quicker it is to take the easy way, often taking from those who have worked hard for what they have.

The contents of each life-character should be a thing of pride and each one’s owner should be able to smile within their heart because they know having passed the test of life demanded of themselves, they can settle into a comfortable lifestyle as they approach their maturity.  Perhaps success is attained when family and friends can tell that you are deserving of what you have and when you have departed this realm, they can say that you were a genuinely good person.

That is all we can live for; our legacy of good deeds.   Perhaps that should be each and everyone’s ultimate ambition.
