You’re never too old to be young…

Dear LPG,
Did you know that today is the 83rd anniversary of the day that Disney’s first ever full length animated feature film, Snow white and the seven dwarfs was first released? It was released six months’ earlier in America, but I think that today is a bit of a landmark anniversary when it comes to its relationship with we British.
The years have been kind to it and, in the same way that the crackles give away the age of some vinyl records when they are heard by the modern ear, it’s age is now obvious to any modern eye, but no matter what your age it still holds fascination for so many first time and repeat viewers.
We can read all about how successful the film has been on the internet, but one of the details that is often missed is that amongst the bits and pieces that were left on the editing floor, there were a few verses of a song that, although written for the movie, never actually featured in the final edit.
The song in question was entitled ‘You’re never too old to be young’ or ‘the silly song’ and, as the film was aimed primarily at children, I suppose that they just didn’t fit, although they are very relevant now that, we, the children of 1937 that are still around, have become oldies.
So, on the anniversary of the release of the film, I thought readers might enjoy and appreciate the words and tune while they reminisce a little.
