Hot or not while you are sleeping.

Dear LPG,

 

I am aiming this message towards those LPG readers that find they are up and unable to go back to sleep in the wee small hours. That is all very well if you are one of those people who does not feel the worse for wear on a regular basis as a result, but for those who find themselves nodding off regularly during the middle of the day, it can be really annoying.

 

Retirement has its advantages, because I know that like so many retired people, I feel there is now no reason for me to force myself to stay awake.  At a time and stage of my life where there is little that I really have to do with a deadline in mind, my head often falls to my chest while those all-important seconds and minutes pass by. 

 

The annoying thing is that I waste so much time trying to sleep at night while, at times, I can’t stay awake during the day.   I have even found myself falling off a backless chair while watching telly with the act of falling being the thing that woke me up moments before I actually made contact with the floor. 

 

I know that other   people have written messages on this subject, which have ended up on LPG pages, but I found a piece of information which might work for some. It is all about the temperature which, as HB posted only a couple of months ago, was really too hot at night (►►►). Being too hot is one thing that helps to make it harder to sleep when the summer temperatures were with us. It occurs to me that now that the winter nights are making themselves known, many of us will make a point of huddling up under the covers and overheating while our minds get into focussing on how cold it is. I think that somehow, during the winter months, when the colder days get to our bodies, we feel the need to see the same temperatures as much colder, and I have found a little information about why that happens. 

 

I am not sure that it will affect anyone’s sleep pattern but if season and temperature is mind over matter, this bit of information might just make a difference.
