In preparation for a national day with a subtitle…

30 Dec 2020

Dear LPG,

I want to write about a national day in the hope that LPG will post my message a day in advance.

With a days’ notice we all know that tomorrow will be New Year’s Day. I secretly think that they made it a national holiday because of all the merry making that we put into preparing for it. In normal years many of us will have been celebrating for the whole week that runs up to this big day by experimenting and playing with all those presents that were received just a week ago, watching lots of things on the television (reruns of old movies or the latest ones that Netflix have to offer), and stuffing ourselves with the surplus amounts of food that are still around from Christmas.

My guess is that there are likely to be no New Year parties this year, even if you are one of the pensioners that are lucky enough to usually get an invite, and so there are likely to be many more people raising a glass to 2021 while sat on their own at home and, with all the other merrymaking activities discouraged, I can imagine that there will be many more people than usual remembering that extra activity which can be repeated many a time; refilling the glass.

Tomorrow will be New Year’s Day, a day when so many of us will have so much more that they want to leave behind in the year 2020, while they look forward to a possible end to this whole Covid-19 episode in 2021. But did you know that January 1st is also National Hangover day?  Apparently at the beginning of a relatively normal year there are more hangovers expected on this day than any other.

Depending on what you plan to do at midnight tonight, perhaps today is the day to prepare for yours so that you can recover as quickly as possible if the need arises.  With this in mind I have taken a look for the best that the internet has to offer when it comes to how to prevent them, and what to do if you end up with one, although I have my reservations on the success any of them might really offer…

I hope something in the list helps if you forget the ultimate cure; Abstinence!
