Versed thoughts (chapter 29): Keep in Touch

08 Feb 2021

Dear LPG,

I am very aware that the pandemic that we are still in the middle of, continues to be the main topic of our long-distance exchanges which now consist of little more than telephone conversations rather than hand shakings, hugs, kisses and taps on the shoulder, because real face-to-face interaction has morphed from being the necessity that we so took for granted, to the near-non-existent luxury that we are now becoming frighteningly used to not experiencing.

The thought process behind the words I have penned have brought me a little comfort even though I am able to see family members from the other side of a screen.  I am sure that many are only seeing the down side of the whole situation we find ourselves in, and I hope that my words offer a wisp of positivity in an environment that still has a long way to go before we return to a world which is not completely overshadowed by this pandemic…

Keep in Touch

It is the time of masks and gloves - of loneliness and tears,

Not standing close or touching, because of Covid fears,

But touch has some good shapes and forms we may not realise.

The splash of water in the shower that falls down on our skin,

Our fingers when we play the piano, guitar or violin,

So enjoy the role that touch can play to soothe and energise.

Clasp tight a rough, old tree trunk, it will calm your beating heart,

For in healing pain and worries, Mother Nature plays her part.

She gives us food our hands prepare and our hunger satisfies.

Hold the locket of one dear to you, you’ll sense the power and love,

Feel the comfort of a crucifix, know God watches from above.

Keeping in touch the good way will your life revitalise.
