The ‘negative voice in my head’ challenge…

15 Mar 2021

Dear LPG,

I am hoping that you will post this thought on March 15th 2021, but more of that later…

I need to start by telling you that my negative inner voice sometimes tells me that we are all too good to be true because, without exception, all human minds sometimes have a habit of conjuring up some seriously negative thoughts.  They often get us down and leave us at a point where the people around us can feel the negativity that they radiate when we talk to them, even if the details of the thought is not mentioned.

I hate it when my negative inner voice puts terrible thoughts in my mind because I end up with a frown on my forehead.  I know we all do it, but the worst thing is that it is so difficult not to, because you have to have had the negative thought before you work out that it is a thought you would rather not have had in the first place, and so many of us have had a year of lockdown to hone them courtesy of Covid-19.

When what I am thinking is awful, I am so glad that I am the only one who knows about it, and I like to think that my positive thoughts outnumber the negative ones.  I don’t proclaim to be a saint, but knowing right from wrong keeps most of us grounded.

There is something about the generation that I belong to; we are the ones left who are arguably part of an age group who were exposed to less immorality and wrong-doing during the most influential years of our lives, and the Christian in me has always been aware that some negative thoughts are also pretty sinful and therefore not to be entertained.

Logic dictates that it is important to think positively, or so I have been told and during one of my negative thinking sessions, I decided to use my mind to do some maths which, at least, diverted the thought and might just add a little logic into the whole argument.

Did you know that March 15th is exactly, well more-or-less six months as far away as you can get from September 13th which is the National Day of Positive Thinking?   So I suggest that, in preparation for a day of positive thought, and with exactly six months to figure it out, today is the day that we should all start working on a preparation strategy designed to help us to all get more positive.
