Dear LPG, 

I recently read an article about buttons (►►►), well I think it was more about the significance of taking pictures of your collections before you give them away, but buttons were the group featured.  

On one of my recent internet surfing sessions, I discovered a couple of questionably interesting things about buttons and thought I would share them.

I learnt a few facts about those little things that we take for granted. They have been helping us keep our modesty together ever since I can remember, and while we women usually learn the art of attaching them to the clothes we sew or reattaching them when they fall off, the only time that any person notices is when they lose one.

I, like FT, have a bit of a collection, although I usually only have one or two of each in my button jar. I have to say that the ones in my jar are traditionally the odd couple that was left over after I used the rest on a particular jumper or cardigan that I knitted back in the day. Still, over the years and especially these days when no one has any time to do anything, we mostly do them up and forget them.

The other thing is that now that we have Zips, Velcro and stretchy material, which has diminished our need for them quite a bit, there is always a fact or two on the internet.  

Have you ever wondered why men's and women's shirts do up in opposite directions, for instance? I have found the answer, but the internet can explain better than I so, with LPG's permission, I will leave a link or two below on that subject…
