The ‘Pre’ and the ‘Pro’ of ‘crustination’ …

20 Mar 2024

Dear LPG,

I read with interest what CN had to say on the subject of her impatience when it comes to waiting around before travelling (►►►).  I found it interesting that she mentioned it being a problem whenever she is anticipating travel and wondered if it affects any other aspect of not controlling when something will happen.

We oldies often find that a lifetime of inevitable bouts where patience is a necessary quality, learn to wait when we have to and when I think back, life gives us lots of opportunities to practise this skill.

I can think of many times during life when days of waiting become a challenge.  Personally, the gap between taking those GCE exams (as they were called in my school days) and the posting of the results come to mind straight away, and I will never forget the wait between some of my job interviews and getting the letter that contained the potential employer’s decision as to whether my application was successful.

I have to say that the most stressful wait for me only lasted for a minute or so when I found myself on one knee, with a relatively cheap but very sparkly ring in hand, awaiting the answer to the ultimate question.  At least most ladies still leave that pressure to the men in their lives if they bother with marriage.

In answer to CN’s question (and, for all the decades that I have lived on this planet, I claim to have no expertise at all), perhaps she would best be described as a potential procrastinator (as opposed to a procrastinator) when it comes to her approach to travel.

By the way, during the most arduous wait of my life, the lady in question did say yes…

IY offers a little advice he has found about waiting at an airport…
