FoMO laid bare in an ‘end of year’ dream?

30 Dec 2024

Dear LPG

I know that all dreams are meant to have meanings, but this one was bizarre and left me thinking that I might have a relevant message for readers at the end of next year. It starts with a dream I had a year ago when LPG posted my message…

The most vivid dreams always start with a continuation of the last real-life thing that you were doing.  My dreams often have a habit of starting with me getting up and doing all the things that I would do in real life before it all gets a bit odd, and many of the things that happen after that are not scary or magically impossible.

I woke up early on New Year’s Eve 2023 and started the day as usual. After the television news brought my brain up to speed, I got dressed and ready for the day, but that was when one little thing out of character happened.

The newscaster mentioned that Jesus would be appearing at an event at the Catford Theatre later that day. As a Christian, I wondered why I had not heard the news beforehand. I would have booked a ticket. I remember feeling quite put out because I would miss the opportunity to be there. In my dream, the event had already sold out.

That was the whole dream, although I had no idea how long it took to play out. Not long after, my morning repeated without the news that had made the first version of the start of my day so imprinted in my mind.

Strangely, the likelihood of Jesus coming to town did not phase me; I was more disappointed that I would miss the opportunity to be part of that event.

I just had to look online to see if I could find a meaning for the dream. It's worth sharing what I found because, for me, it was Jesus that I had missed out on. However, I am sure many people have dreamed about missing out on an event they would have liked to participate in.

Missing out in a dream implies feelings of guilt, a need to look at the time/management balance in life or the dreamer’s lack of concentration; all traits that I am guilty of not being in control of.

I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions, but since this happened on last year's last day, I have decided that there might be room for improvement. If you had an end-of-the-year dream, it might be worth looking up the meaning and trying to steer your version of the 12 months in a more positive direction…

Although being armed with a bit of knowledge can be acted upon at any time of year, the significance of the milestones between the end of one year and the start of another might have been the thing that provoked my need for action that day.  It is too late to do something about a significant end-of-year dream this year because dreams usually get forgotten minutes after you have them. Still, with the reminder, I hope that LPG will be able to let my message offer as we get to the end of 2024, perhaps a few readers might be thinking about improving their version of the next new year rather than making resolutions that they will never be able to keep…
