The Exchange, A Space To Share Your Life Experience

28 Jul 2017

One of the most pleasant feelings that older people can have is when they feel that someone wants to listen to what they have to say. Sometimes people forget that the elderly have something that only they have: a long and rich life experience. It can’t be bought, but it can be shared. Older people were there during some of the most important historical events in recent history and they have learnt how to overcome difficult times. That’s why their advice should always be considered and their stories should always been heard.

However, there are not many places where both the elderly and the young can gather together to take advantage of this experience exchange. The Exchange is one of those places. It is a volunteer-led Community Library and a non profit café, but most importantly, it hosts daily activities designed to encourage the sharing of memories and experiences, emphasising the value of reminiscences between young and old. Many of these activities are focused on the power of arts as a way to communicate and recall our memories.

Visit this website to check out what’s going on: http://www.age-exchange.org.uk/events/ If you live around Blackheath you have probably been to this place already, but if you don’t, you should take a bus and pop into. If you are interested in sharing your experience or you want to learn from others, this is the perfect place to celebrate the ageing experience.
