Why aging is great

01 Oct 2017

Aging is often seen as something negative. Many times, people often associate aging with physical and psychological decline. However, there are many positive things about getting older and it is not difficult to come up with some.

Getting older means having more time for your loved ones. Retirement can be an excellent opportunity to spend more time with family and friends. Also, being a grandparent is an amazing experience: you can experience the joys of little children but without diaper changes and sleepless nights. Try to get to know your grandchildren and teach them everything you know. They will be happy to hear what you have to say.

Retirement is also an opportunity to pursue your dreams and passions. Have you always wanted to learn a foreign language? Now you have the time to do so. Did you always want to learn how to play an instrument but never made time for it? Start learning now. It is never too late to learn new skills. Retired people also have more time to get civically and politically involved, which helps improve society and create a better world for future generations.

Wisdom is another benefit of aging. Seniors have better control over their emotions than other age groups. Just think about it: we never stop learning, so the older we grow, the more we have learnt, and all that experience helps us take better decisions, find best way to confront our problems, and acquire better social skills.

So next time someone complains about aging, tell this person why getting older is great: we have more time to spend with our loved ones and learn new skills and we have gained an experience that helps us in many ways.
